Who is this guy ??

THE WHo

Before 2020 I had no idea about fitness or walking. I have been very lucky during the Covid lockdowns. I was able to use my time away from my work to take up walking and it has made a huge difference to my life.

I am aware that many people endured huge suffering and loss during that time, and I am one of the very few who emerged from lockdowns in a better place than before. I wanted to use this change in a positive way and make the most of the huge improvements I was able to make to my life during the crisis!

Walking during lockdown helped me turn this guy…..

….into this guy!

What’s this all about ??

THE WHy

1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with Cancer in their lifetime in the UK*

This statistic along with my close family being directly affected made me want to do something about Cancer.

Cancer is a survivable disease, but survival is best when it is found and treated sooner.

Not only do I want to raise money for Cancer Research, I want to help raise the knowledge about Cancer. You can find information about Cancer on the NHS Websites:

Cancer | NHS inform – in Scotland

Cancer – NHS (www.nhs.uk) – for England and Wales

and for information about help and support here:

Macmillan Cancer Support | The UK’s leading cancer care charity

You can also find out about the charity I am hoping to raise funds for, and their work here: About us | Cancer Research UK

What’s the big idea ??

THE WHat

So I asked myself, “What can I do about this ?”

Well, I’m not a doctor, but I’ve decided to combine my desire to do something positive with the changes I’ve been able to make to my life, with my wish to raise money for such a good cause. I’ve decided I’m going to try to walk from my home in Glasgow, to Inverness in the Scottish highlands. I’ve never done any long distance walking before, so I’m expecting this to be quite a challenge! You can find out more about my plans, and how I’m getting prepared here….

How can I help ??

THE you

So what can you do to help?

First, if you’re able, please sponsor me

Or donate to your local Cancer Research charity, or Cancer support organisation. You can find links to some of the popular ones here: Cancer Support – DaveWalks.co.uk

Second, if you’ve done this walk before, or something similar, please reach out and give me your best advice and tips. I really, really want to complete this and raise as much money as possible. But I’m a total novice at this so any advice you can offer me I will gratefully receive.

Finally, please please take a minute to look at the Cancer information page of the website here: Cancer Information – DaveWalks.co.uk
This will give you information on types of Cancer, symptoms, support available, and how to get yourself checked. You never know, it might just save your life!

Share your thoughts and experiences with me.
